Step Out to Fight Diabetes, formerly America's Walk for Diabetes, is about changing the face of diabetes in our country—by raising funds to help find a cure and by walking a few miles to bring a greater awareness to this devastating disease. A local walk will be held on October 14,2007 starting in Capitol Park and continuing on the Kennebec River Rail Trail. Please visit www.diabetes.org/walk to register, or contact the local planning group at j.flynn@healthycommunitiesme.org Step Up to Better Health SUBH is a 10 week walking program started by the AARP. Just like Move More the program encourages using a pedometer and keeping track of your steps. When you record your steps online you will track your progress on one of four famous American trails - Lewis and Clark, Alaska Highway, Highway 50 or the Appalachian Trail. Go to www.aarp.org/walking and click on Step Up to Better Health. The President's Challenge This website allows your enrollees to pick their fitness level and activity interests. They use an online physical activity log and receive points for different activities that they do. The website offers it's own incentives, or you can incorporate Move More incentives. www.presidentschallenge.org Step-n-Trek The American Lung Association of Maine has started it's newest healthy activity and fundraising event. It is designed to welcome those who are not able to ride a bike 180 miles, but join Maine's largest bicycling event in a new way. Step-n-Trek uses an interactive website to help participants track their progress, virtually along the 180 bike route of the Trek Across Maine. www.mainelung.org/stepntrek.htm Move More Newsletter Archives Winter 2007
