Maine in Motion is a statewide program of the Governor's Council that was launched in 2004 to increase the daily level of physical activity for Maine citizens of all ages. Maine in Motion provides a program that facilitates an increase in awareness of how physical activity can improve health across Maine while encouraging social interactions that support on-going physical activity.
The Maine CDC Cardiovascular Health Program in the Maine Department of Health and Human Services works to prevent death and disability from heart disease and stroke in Maine. We promote a way of life that supports and includes preventing and controlling risk factors, especially high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol, and increasing timely care for heart attacks and strokes. To accomplish this we partner with state and local organizations, educate Maine residents, and offer technical assistance, resources and training to community organizations, health care providers and employers.

National Health Observances are special days, weeks, or months used to raise awareness of important health topics. Examples include World AIDS Day or the Great American Smokeout.
Maine Huts & Trails offer 45 miles of trail corridor and three full service lodges. Each of the three huts is a day’s journey (on foot or on skis) from the next. A hut-to-hut adventure guarantees visitors will experience Flagstaff Lake Hut. During the winter, trails are groomed for both classic and skate cross country skiing. There are also miles of un-groomed snowshoe trails around each hut. During the spring, summer and fall the trails are available for hiking and mountain biking. There is never a fee to use the trails.
