Summary of the guidelines:
- Make every bite count:
- Eat healthy foods from the basic food groups: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products, lean meats, poultry, fish and beans.
- Limit saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium) alcohol and added sugars.
- Choose a variety of healthy foods:
- Eat a balanced diet that includes each food group, and vary the foods you eat within each food group.
- Get active:
- Regular physical activity can improve your overall health. it also helps with maintaining a healthy weight.
- Keep your foods safe:
- Wash hands and food surfaces.
- Cook foods to a safe temperature.
