Summary of the guidelines:
 
  • Make every bite count:
    • Eat healthy foods from the basic food groups: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products, lean meats, poultry, fish and beans.
    • Limit saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium) alcohol and added sugars.
 
  • Choose a variety of healthy foods:
    • Eat a balanced diet that includes each food group, and vary the foods you eat within each food group.
 
  • Get active:
    • Regular physical activity can improve your overall health. it also helps with maintaining a healthy weight.
 
  • Keep your foods safe:
    • Wash hands and food surfaces.
    • Cook foods to a safe temperature.
